The percentage of persons with visual impairments who are unemployed, underemployed or are on SS/SSI/SSDI is much higher than the general population. Many are on a fixed income with a limited budget to spend on technology. The grants offered by CFTB have become a mainstay of the organization, and the advantage of a low price for a quality device is the feedback we receive from clients and partner agencies. One of the main priorities of CFTB is to continue to keep the cost of each device down to $150-$200, even as our expenses rise, so that our clients can afford the purchase. However, this price is still cost prohibitive for many of our clients. This grant allows us to continue offering these low prices to persons with visual impairments throughout the United States! Communities Foundation of Texas works with families, companies and nonprofits to strengthen the community through a variety of charitable funds and strategic grant making initiatives. The Reading Resource Fund at Communities Foundation of Texas was established in 2015 to continue promoting the mission of Reading & Radio Resource, a nonprofit that provided audio access to printed material for those with blindness and for individuals with barriers to reading. Their transition to the Reading Resource Fund has enabled them to remain committed to leveraging technology to enhance the lives, education and careers of individuals who experience barriers to reading.

Anyone who has a visual impairment and receives SS, SSI or SSDI or is a student should contact Computers for the Blind for more information on eligibility for this grant that will reduce the price of a laptop or desktop computer by $60.00.

This grant is available immediately and will be continued until all funds are spent. Please share this with all vision professionals, rehabilitation counselors, consumers, consumer organizations and veteran/military connections throughout United States.
