Alliant Credit Union Foundation Grant

Summary

Alliant Credit Union Foundation Grant awarded to Computers for the Blind (CFTB) to initiate grassroots
training program to help bridge the digital divide.

DALLAS, TX (September 2022) – CFTB recently was one of 22 recipients of Alliant Credit Union Foundation’s Quarter Million Dollar Challenge.

Computers for the Blind’s mission is to open the world of information technology to persons who are
blind or visually impaired by providing computers, software and training. In a recent survey of clients, over half indicated they were not proficient with their devices. This grant award from Alliant Credit Union Foundation will support a grassroots effort to provide seamless support with the purchase of a computer, tutorials to set up the computer, and training to use the specialized assistive technology software.

American Foundation for the Blind indicated that “…research shows that people with visual impairments lag woefully behind their sighted peers in acquiring the skills needed to take part in the technological revolution. Use of technology by people who are blind or visually impaired is much lower than for the general population, and lack of awareness, availability, and training opportunities contribute to this persistent gap.” We are very excited that this initiative will help close the gap and work towards digital equity for all.
